I Have a Treasured Hanky - Part 3 - Look What Susie Did

This is picture of Susie's kitchen and where she hung her other Hanky Dresses I made for her.
I think that is just the sweetest idea she came up with!  And notice that unique piece of trim above her doorway.

Pictured here is Susie with her granddaughter Chandler and daughter in law Jami. They are just two of her crafting and baking "partners in crime." She has two other granddaughters, Macie and Hanna, who join her in her these adventures, as well. Susie is a retired professional baker and has traveled to Paris to for lessons. While there she enjoys visiting Paris street markets too. (I secretly want to stow away with you next time.)

Susie made these bags from fabric scraps and vintage hankies. The fringe on the bags and the rug were made from damaged hankies.

The rugs she makes are an old style that originally was created with 2-inch strips of fabric woven with an old toothbrush cut off at the brush end and filed to a point at the other end. The fabric strips are threaded through the hole and worked in a fashion similar to how you do a buttonhole stitch. There are several variations on this theme.

So creative!

I just love that rug.

Thanks so much for sharing with us.

A Different Shade of Valentine

The Homespun Society is having a Valentine' Day treasury challenge. I just love this entry by Kayskrafts. I think it is so unique and clever...and I love the bright sun shiny yellow considering many of us around the country are dealing with cloudy skies and cold snow.

You can click on any of the items for more info about that item and the Etsy shop.

Reader Submission - Baby Booties Using Upcycled Vintage Hankies

Sue, one of my readers, contacted me after finding my Hanky Dresses online to let me know how much she liked them and that she had pinned one on her Don’t Cry Pin Board - http://pinterest.com/greenbriarsue/don-t-cry/ We started comparing notes and I found out she was a hanky lover and crafter too.

Isn’t this a sweet idea! Sue makes these cute little baby booties from upcycled vintage hankies.

These little girl's booties incorporate white ladies hankies. The special white booties on the bottom were made from a vintage hanky that had tulle lace on the edge and tiny embroidered flowers.

Both sets of the of boy's booties incorporate men’s hankies.

Here is what else Sue had to say:
I have been fascinated with hankies since I was given a box of them from a relative's estate sale. When I opened my Etsy shop, Greenbriar Creations, one and a half years ago, I began selling the bridal/heirloom quality hankies and upcycling the ones that weren't so perfect. I'm always looking for new ideas, so I was delighted to find your Hanky Dresses today.

All these baby booties are available at Sue's shop, just click here:  www.greenbriarcreations.etsy.com
Thanks for sharing Sue!
